Become a Precinct Committee Person

Precinct Committee Persons (PCPs) are vital for the Democratic Party. PCPs are the driving force behind registering voters, “Get Out the Vote (GOTV)” and educating family, friends and neighbors about the candidates and issues. A personal visit from a PCP is often the most influential contact many voters will have during an election. What do PCPs do?

  • Decide local party leadership

  • Have a voice and vote in filling state legislative vacancies

  • Help with the operations of local parties

  • Propose and vote on county resolutions

  • Do outreach at community events

  • Help facilitate local Get-Out-The-Vote efforts

  • Volunteer recruitment and development

  • Represent voters in your community

A Precinct Committee Person is a representative of the Party in the precinct in which he or she resides. For every 250 registered voters in a precinct, there should be one precinct person.  In Yamhill County there are a total of 297 PCP positions for each Party (594 total). During the 2020 general election only 140 were filled (50 by Democrats and 90 by Republicans). There’s room for you in the Party and your voice is needed!

PCPs can either be elected or appointed. What’s the difference? While all PCPs are voting members of the Central Committee of the county party, only elected PCPs may vote for party leadership at the state level during the biennial party reorganization.

Whether elected or appointed, as a PCP you will have a voice and a vote in the Party when decisions are made that affect your community. If you are interested in shaping not merely your community but the Democratic Party in Yamhill County, we encourage you to complete a PCP form!

Remember: only PCPs can vote on the local party bylaws, local party resolutions, candidates, funding support, other public activities pertaining to the party.

TO BECOME AN ELECTED PCP:  Complete the PCP Election Form (SEL 105) and submit to the Yamhill County Clerk at 414 NE Evans Street, McMinnville, OR 97128. The filing deadline for the May 2022 election is March 8, 2022.

If you miss the filing deadline, you can submit a Write In Candidate Declaration OR be nominated by someone else using the Write In Candidate Nomination Form, both due by May 17, 8pm, 2022, and being written in by 3 voters (including yourself). Under the new state law, changed by SB224 in 2019, write-in candidates who have not filed a declaration prior to Election Day will not be counted.

Pro-tip: you only need 3 votes to be elected! Seriously. So call your friends and family.

TO BECOME AN APPOINTED PCP: Fill out and submit the form below or print out and complete the PCP Appointment PDF, then send it to secretary@ycdemocrats.org.
